Red Tails in the Marsh Grass
N FL and S GA’s Unique Spartina Marsh Flats Wading Fishery
September 26, 2023 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Learn to fish this truly unique wade fishing challenge — tailing redfish in North Florida and South Georgia’s spartina grass flats. Learn the best times of year, how to wade, and where to find fish. Equally important: Learn what to avoid, like the unproductive, even dangerous black mud marshes, deeper waters, and oyster bars. You’ll learn effective flies you can tie yourself, and the simple fly-fishing equipment needed to find, approach, and catch these sometimes reluctant, occasionally difficult fish. The real secret is that these flats offer also sheepshead and black drum. Lambert’s presentation includes stunning photography, humor, safety tips, approach, stealth, wind, tides, and, if time allows, short-cast techniques with some line management tossed in.
North Florida native David Lambert is editor of On Water Journal. He is a master casting instructor, an outdoor writer, a TFO and Patagonia pro staffer, and author of Smart Casts: The New Approach to Fly Casting & Practice. Lambert was 2002 SEC-FFF Man of The Year and was Co-Youth Chair for the SEC for 10 years. He splits his fishing time between North Florida’s salt and its spring rivers. Lambert would like you to know that he paddles hard, returns fish, drinks little, and has generally a grand ‘ol time.
